Saskatchewan artist celebrates Rider’s Grey Cup win with artwork

As the Saskatchewan Roughriders wrap their 2025 CFL season today, fans across the province are still finding ways to celebrate the team’s Grey Cup win.

One of those celebrations comes from an artist from Red Pheasant Cree Nation who created a piece of artwork featuring the Grey Cup alongside a feather, the sun and a bison.

Chris Chipak, who now lives in Saskatoon, describes it as a celebratory piece.

“This piece is a celebration and bringing everything full circle. Appreciating that we all celebrate the victory as a province,” Chipak said.

The Grey Cup win, he says, is “important and reflective” for him.

“I was given an opportunity to share my story and I just wanted to reiterate that story in a celebration of winning the whole thing this year,” he said.

Chipak says he sees art as a story with movement and meaning.

“I always see art as being a story and having fluidity so even when we capture in moments of being still, the story can be recaptured in moving parts. And whether it’s A.J. moving through the defence like a bison or highlighting the feather in the Grey Cup illustration as celebrating purpose,” he said.

Chipak will be Wanuskewin Heritage Park’s artist in residence from Jan. 12 to Feb. 6, 2026. During that time, the public will be able to visit him in the studio as he works on an exhibition for Wanuskewin.
