The Saskatchewan Roughriders are getting ahead of the 2025 Canadian Football League season with two new agreements announced in Saskatoon on Tuesday.

One involves the 2024 West Division nominee for offensive lineman of the year, 27-year-old Logan Ferland.

“Logan has become a foundational player for our team,” said Jeremy O’Day, general manager and vice-president of football operations.

“Just has tremendous value; is involved with the community and has become a leader in our locker room. So we’re here today to congratulate Logan on signing his two-year extension through 2027.”

Ferland was under contract for 2025. He suited up in all 18 games of the regular season and both playoff games.

O’Day says his versatility makes him valuable.

“Last year for us, he took 1,124 snaps,” said O’Day.

“What’s more impressive than that, is that he took 528 snaps of right guard, 379 snaps at center, 199 snaps at right tackle and 18 snaps at left tackle, which speaks to his versatility. Obviously, I think he probably would just like to stay in one spot and play there for the season, but because he’s very versatile, [a] very valuable player for us.”

Suiting up on the scout team for the team he grew up cheering for was a “pinch me” moment for Ferland. But in the years since, he’s developed into a leader on the team. He says it’s a privilege to carry the tradition of Saskatchewan-born Roughriders.

“I knew what I signed up for when I played for this province,” said Ferland. “I saw guys like Dan Clark, like Brendon LaBatte, the guys that are from this province and saw how special it was to them, and kind of pass that torch to me. And now I can carry on that tradition from those Sask. boys.”

O’Day was also in Saskatoon Tuesday to announce an extended agreement with the University of Saskatchewan to host training camp through the 2027 season.

“Personally, I love it,” said O’Day. “I think it’s a great opportunity for us to get out of Regina for a few weeks and make sure the province knows that we’re the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and let our fan base come and see the guys in person.”

O’Day says getting the entire team together during a crucial point in the season helps make the bonds necessary for success.

“Gives our guys an opportunity to all be in the same facilities, they’re around each other all the time during training camp, but then they go back to the dorms around each other. It builds the camaraderie that you want, and the University of Saskatchewan are great hosts.”

Training camp runs May 7 to 9 at Griffiths Stadium for rookies, then main camp runs from May 11 to 25.

The Roughriders will return to Mosaic Stadium for the final week of camp.
