Man released without charges now facing multiple offences in University Bridge crash

WATCH: A man arrested in connection with a crash on the University Bridge has been released from police custody without charges.

Saskatoon police say they have laid charges against a man who was previously released without charges in relation to a crash on University Bridge last week.

The 37-year-old man was initially charged with dangerous driving, evading police, impaired driving and refusal on Oct. 15, but the next day police said he was released from custody without charges for admission to hospital under the Mental Health Services Act.

In an update sent Thursday afternoon, Saskatoon police said officers attended a hospital in the 100 block of Hospital Drive at around 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 23, where the man was charged.

The charges include dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, impaired driving, refusal to provide a blood sample, possession of a controlled substance and breach of probation.

Police say the man remains in hospital under the Mental Health Services Act.

On Oct. 15, at around 8: 45 a.m., officers were called for reports of a black car driving erratically, travelling in the wrong lanes, and not obeying traffic signals. A patrol officer attempted to stop the vehicle on 7th Avenue North, but it sped away.

The vehicle then collided with a truck on University Bridge. No serious injuries were reported.
