If you’re still dreaming about getting in one more day of ice fishing, let this be your wake-up call.
A vehicle sank into the South Saskatchewan River early Monday morning at the Clarkboro Ferry Crossing, located about 10 minutes east of Warman.
In a post on Facebook, Warman Fire Rescue shared photos of the vehicle, calling it the “annual spring car thru the ice at the Ferry Crossing.”
“Driver was able to get out and get to the Aberdeen side of the river, so no rescue needed,” the fire department said in the post.
“Time to stay off the ponds as well, folks, please tell your kids!”
Saskatchewan Highways operates a cable ferry at the site during the summer, but it is not an approved ice road crossing in the winter.
The Clarkboro Crossing is one of the province’s busiest ferries, with over 70,000 vehicles crossing each season between Warman and Aberdeen, according to the Ministry of Highways.
