This Saskatchewan man runs an antique truck restoration shop beside the Trans Canada

WATCH: Wayne Mantyka has the story about a Saskatchewan man who has built a business restoring old prairie farm trucks for collectors.

Kevin Gennis’ passion for antique vehicles, especially farm trucks, has led him to become a major supplier of classic half tons to collectors across Canada through his business – TransCanada Trucks.

“Well, I picked trucks because we are in the truck capital of the world, I think. I mean, everybody had a truck,” he told CTV News.

With more than a quarter million kilometres stretching in all directions – Saskatchewan has more country roads than any Canadian province. Grid roads usually mean trucks – meaning Gennis has access to an ample supply of antiques.

“It’s fulfilling, meeting people, brings back memories,” he explained. “We’re finding seniors coming in and reminiscing about, ‘Oh, the neighbor had this, or the uncle had that.’”

TransCanada Trucks is situated right on Highway 1 – in-between the towns of Wolseley and Grenfell – east of Regina.

Its location means there are no shortage of visitors. Passing travelers stopped in to check out the collection ahead of a truck show in the yard this coming weekend.

“They seen all the cars, ‘Can we go? Can we go?’ traveler Julie Umscheid explained, motioning to her children. “So, we had to turn around and come back.”

Gennis restores everything. His yard is dotted with everything from farm trucks to fire engines, to army transport trucks.

He showed off a current project to CTV News Tuesday, a 1948 Fargo.

“What had happened was the original owner’s son came to me, and asked if I would take this original, old two-and-a-half-ton body and upgrade the chassis and driveline. We’ve done that,” Gennis explained.

When the proprietor left the farm a few years ago – he thought he would never return. Coming back has allowed him to indulge his passion for trucks.

Now he says, he’s never leaving.
