Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Regina campus will soon offer the province’s only respiratory therapy program with 20 seats opening in the fall of 2025.

The program itself is expected to start the following fall in 2026, according to Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

Once completed, students will be able to diagnose, treat and manage cardio-respiratory patients.

The school says the three-year-program will address the identified need for respiratory therapists in Saskatchewan.

Announced by the province in the 2025-26 budget, Sask. Polytech says the program will build on previous investments to expand seats to health sciences and nursing programs in the province.

The province provided more than $3 million for the program.

“The Respiratory Therapy program at Sask. Polytech will blend theoretical knowledge with practical application to prepare students for careers in respiratory therapy. It will feature hands-on learning in simulation centres and clinical placements in various healthcare settings, including intensive care units, emergency departments and diagnostic labs,” the school said in a release.

According to Sask. Polytech, students who complete the program will be able to find employment with diagnostic laboratories, community care, education and research along with hospital emergency rooms and critical care units.
