New SGI program allows speakers to share personal stories on unsafe driving

Several people who have been affected by unsafe driving habits spoke at the launch of SGI’s new program on Wednesday.

The SGI Speakers Program helps bring speakers to Saskatchewan schools and organizations, with the intention of inspiring, educating, and empowering people through their personal stories.

One of the speakers at Wednesday’s launch was Sandra LaRose, who lost her daughter Kailynn in a distracted driving collision with a train in 2018.

“Kailynn’s music was so loud, she didn’t hear the train,” LaRose shared. “Her windows were all rolled down because she didn’t have air conditioning in her car.”

“Sharing her story with the people of Saskatchewan, and hopefully saving lives, is the best way I know to honour an amazing young lady.”

The program offers up to $1,000 for a speaker to travel within the province to share their stories and promote safer driving habits.

Those who are interested in joining the program can visit SGI’s website. The program is available to schools, charities, workplaces, and non-profit organizations as a way for groups to engage with traffic safety advocates.
