The City of Regina says the launch of an alerts system on Thursday will give residents quicker access to important public safety information during emergencies.
Dubbed “notifynow,” the system from Regina Fire and Protective Services (RFPS) is designed to warn residents of nearby threats to health, safety or property and provide essential updates in the aftermath of extreme weather events, the city said in a news release.
The alert system will also notify subscribers of evacuation or shelter in-place orders as well as major fires, city-wide service disruptions, boil water advisories and locations of warming and cooling shelters during extreme cold and heat waves, according to the city.
The city says that notifynow will complement the SaskAlert system and residents will need to signup in order to get a text, call or email notification. Residents can register on the city’s website.
“Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents is our top priority,” Mayor Chad Bachynski said in the release. “Launching the notifynow public alerting system will empower our community to stay informed and take necessary precautions when it matters most. I encourage everyone to register for this important tool online.”
“notifynow aligns with our broader efforts to ensure timely, accurate, and effective communication with residents during emergencies and critical incidents,” Fire Chief Layne Jackson added.
