Child seriously injured, Sask. man charged with attempted murder, assault by choking in Yorkton

Saskatchewan RCMP say a 41-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder of a child under the age of six.

Police received a report of a serious assault at a residence on Waterloo Road in Yorkton on Feb. 1, according to an RCMP news release published Thursday.

“Officers and EMS responded. Investigation determined an adult male assaulted a child, who is under the age of 6, who was transported to hospital with serious injuries,” the release said.

RCMP added that due to privacy considerations they are unable to provide an update on the child’s condition.

As a result of the investigation, 41-year-old Frederick Stewart from Saltcoats, Sask. has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault by choking and failing to comply with a probation order.

RCMP said Stewart was arrested at the scene on Feb. 1.

He is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Yorkton on Feb. 7.
