Charges laid in connection to 2024 pedestrian collision on Key First Nation

Saskatchewan RCMP has updated its list of charges connected to a fatal crash involving pedestrians on Key First Nation last year.

A 62-year-old man from Keeseekoose First Nation was initially charged with failure to stop after an accident resulting in death, three counts of operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration greater than 80 mg causing bodily harm, and one count of operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration greater than 80 mg causing death.

Sask. RCMP revealed Tuesday that those charges were stayed – replaced by one count of manslaughter, one count of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death, three counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm, one count of operating a motor vehicle impaired causing death, and operating a motor vehicle impaired causing bodily harm.

The accused has remained in custody since his initial arrest in August of 2024. He made his first appearance on the new charges on March 17.

On Aug. 24, 2024, Kamsack RCMP received a report of crash involving four pedestrians – three children and one adult.

Officers responded along with EMS and STARS. A girl under the age of 12 was declared dead at the scene. Two other children under the age of 12 were transported to hospital with injuries described as serious in nature.

The adult man reported non-life-threatening injuries to police.
