Porter Airlines is grounding non-stop service between Ottawa and Las Vegas for the summer, with plans to resume the flights from Canada’s capital to the entertainment capital of the world in the fall.

The airline launched flights between the Ottawa International Airport (YOW) and the Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) last November, with four flights a week.

On Tuesday, Porter Airlines said it was stopping the Ottawa-Las Vegas route for the summer.

“On account of the (Las Vegas) heat in the summer, we’ve decided to use the aircraft to service other summer routes with strong demand,” a Porter Airlines spokesperson said. “We intend to resume YOW-LAS service in the fall.”

According to the Porter Airlines website, the last day for non-stop flights between Ottawa and Las Vegas is June 15.

Porter Airlines operates direct non-stop flights from Toronto to Las Vegas.

Porter Airlines is boosting service out of Ottawa to Canada’s west coast this summer.

The airline is launching non-stop service between Ottawa and the Victoria International Airport on May 15. On Monday, Porter said the Victoria-Ottawa flight will operate seven times a week during the peak summer period.

Porter says the flight will operate on the 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft.
