A 22-year-old Ottawa man is facing a charge of first-degree murder in connection to a fatal daytime shooting in Ottawa’s west end last weekend.
The Ottawa Police Service says officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 300 block of Craig Henry Drive at approximately 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
Mahad Elmi, 20, of Ottawa died of his injuries. Another person suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
On Tuesday, police released an image of a vehicle of interest in connection to the homicide.
“Investigators believe that the vehicle depicted in the still images is the suspect vehicle,” police said.
On Wednesday, police said the vehicle of interest has been identified and a suspect has been charged.
Osman Yare, 22, of Ottawa is facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder. Yare is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
“Thanks to members of the public who replied to the plea for assistance,” police said.

This was Ottawa’s 10th homicide of 2025 and the fifth homicide in nine days.
Police have charged a suspect in nine of the 10 homicides so far in 2025.
