Police investigating ‘multiple suspicious fires’ at Ottawa dispensaries

Ottawa police are investigating after a fire damaged an illegal magic mushroom dispensary on Rideau St. early Saturday. CTV’s Katelyn Wilson reports.

The Ottawa Police Service is investigating “multiple suspicious fires” at downtown and Little Italy drug dispensaries last week.

Police and firefighters responded to a fire at a cannabis dispensary in the 300 block of Preston Street, just south of the Queensway on Monday, March 24.

On Tuesday, firefighters responded to another fire at the same address at about 4:35 a.m. CTV Ottawa cameras found smoke damage coming from the basement of the building.

A firefighter was treated for minor injuries.

In the early hours of Saturday, a fire damaged an illegal magic mushroom shop on Rideau Street. No one was injured.

In an update on Sunday, police said the fire was being treated as a crime scene but did not provide further details.

The Ottawa police’s arson unit is involved with the investigations.

“At this time, all avenues are being explored however these investigations are in the very early stages,” Ottawa police said in an emailed statement on Monday.

No arrests have been made.
