Ontario Provincial Police have arrested and charged an Ottawa man in connection with the 2023 homicide case of Rose Kerwin of Carleton Place.
Kerwin, 50, was found dead in the Mississippi River in Pakenham on Nov. 12, 2023. Two people, Marcel Lapensee and Samantha Osborne, are facing first degree murder charges in the case. The pair were charged in December of 2023.
In an update Thursday, the OPP said a man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the disappearance of Kerwin’s car, which has yet to be found.
Wayne Gerald Smith, 65, of Ottawa, is charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder. He appeared in court for a bail hearing and was released from custody. He is scheduled to appear in court in Brockville on May 5.
Police continue to search for Kerwin’s vehicle, which is described as a blue 2013 Mazda GX four-door sedan with Ontario licence plate CSXW383. Multiple public appeals have been made to locate the car.
