Two eastern Ontario residents are facing charges following an investigation into a string of copper wire thefts and break-ins in Lanark County and the surrounding area, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The investigation started in the fall of 2024 when police received multiple calls reporting break-ins at an industrial building in Perth, Ont., where wires were being cut, removed and stolen.

On Tuesday, the OPP searched a home in Tay Valley Township and recovered a large amount of copper wire and copper pipes, a crossbow, break-and-enter tools, and a small amount of methamphetamine.

As a result, a 34-year-old and a 22-year-old were charged with possession of schedule one substance and fail to comply with undertaking.

The 34-year-old was also charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, mischief under $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, fail to comply with a release order and break-and-enter.

Both are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
