Firefighters extinguish 10th floor kitchen fire in Ottawa’s west end

Ottawa firefighters were quick to extinguish an apartment kitchen fire on Wednesday evening.

Ottawa Fire Services says multiple 911 callers reported smoke and flames visible from a unit on the 10th storey of a building in the 200 block of Woodbridge Crescent, south of Carling Avenue shortly before 6:40 p.m.

Crews on scene could see heavy flames visible from the street, according to an Ottawa fire news release.

Firefighters called for additional resources and began a “fast attack” on the flames. A hose line was also advanced inside the structure.

Ottawa paramedics say four people were assessed at the scene for minor smoke inhalation. All were released at the scene.

An OC Transpo bus was dispatched to provide shelter for residents.

Ottawa fire says the blaze was extinguished and contained to the area of origin before it could spread. The fire was declared under control shortly after 7 p.m.

High pressurized fans were used to ventilate smoke out of the structure.

An Ottawa Fire Services investigator was called to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
