Ontario Provincial Police charged a 38-year-old man who allegedly drove nearly 70 km/h over the speed limit while impaired on Highway 417 in Ottawa.
Police say they stopped the driver shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Friday in the city’s west end.
The driver was clocked at 169 km/h in a 100 km/h stretch of the highway, police say.
“Upon speaking with the driver, police noticed signs of impairment, which resulted in the driver being arrested for Impaired Driving,” OPP said in a news release.
“The driver registered nearly twice the legal limit.”
The man faces five charges related to impaired driving, stunt driving and dangerous operation.
He was handed an automatic 90-day licence suspension and 14-day vehicle impound.
He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
