Bad joke gets police called to Perth, Ont. high school: OPP

Ontario Provincial Police say a situation at a high school in Perth, Ont. was the result of a “poor attempt at humour” in a group chat.

Lanark County OPP said it is aware of a situation on Tuesday morning at St. John’s Catholic High School.

“In a group chat, some concerning comments were made,” police said in a social media post.

“Police attended and with school officials quickly determined that the comments were a poor attempt at humour and that there is absolutely no concern for the safety of students or staff.”

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario told CTV News Ottawa it sent a message to parents and guardians on Tuesday about the incident.

“Shortly after the beginning of the school day, information was brought forward to school administration in relation to a possible threat to school safety, and police were on site at the school investigating,” said the letter to parents.

“We have worked collaboratively with police to investigate and determined that there was no accuracy to the information or risk to staff or student safety.”
