A 40-year-old woman faces multiple charges, including identity fraud and theft, following an incident at a business in Sault Ste. Marie last week.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said officers responded to a report of a theft in the 300 block of McNabb Street shortly before 11:30 p.m. on April 3.

Police located a suspect matching the description nearby and took them into custody.

“Upon their arrest, the suspect – later identified as the accused – provided two false names to officers,” the police service stated in a news release.

As a result of the police investigation, the woman is charged with theft, possession of property obtained by crime, obstructing a peace officer, and identity fraud.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
