A driver of a commercial motor vehicle from New Brunswick has been charged with impaired driving in northern Ontario.

A member of the public alerted the Ontario Provincial Police that a transport truck was swerving on Highway 17 in Sudbury around 5 p.m. on March 29.

“Police located the vehicle and arrested the driver for impaired driving, then transported the driver to Greater Sudbury Police Service for further testing,” the OPP said in a news release Monday.

Licence suspended

The 45-year-old driver from Woodstock, N.B., was charged with driving while impaired by alcohol and driving while not in accordance with permit limitations.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on April 16 in Sudbury.

Their driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the truck was impounded for a week.

“The OPP would like to remind the public that if you see a possible impaired driver on our roadways, waterways, or trails, please make the call and dial 911,” police said.

“Impaired driving never ends well. Please plan a way to get home safely.”
