Highway 17 was closed for about an hour last week when a tire caught fire on a commercial motor vehicle.

Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release that the fire quickly spread to the entire vehicle.

The incident took place Feb. 5 at 8:15 a.m. on the eastbound side of Highway 17 in the Township of Walden.

“The driver of the CMV noticed smoke coming from the vehicle and discovered that a tire was on fire, which quickly spread to the rest of the vehicle,” police said.

“The Manitoulin OPP closed the Highway in both directions while the City of Greater Sudbury Fire Services extinguished the fire.”

There were no injuries.
