Timmins police add three new officers

Timmins police chief attends first board meeting The first Indigenous police chief in the history of Timmins attended his first police service board meeting on Thursday.

The Timmins Police Service (TPS) recently added three new constables to its ranks.

Constables St Jean, St. Jacques and Petit have now joined the force.

“Const. St Jean, Const. St. Jacques and Const. Petit have sworn their Oath of Office,” police officials said on social media on Friday.

“They will be assigned to their respective platoons and coach officers to continue their mentoring.”

Recruitment continues to be a main priority for the Timmins Police Board according to their board meeting on Thursday.

Acting deputy chief Darren Dinel told CTV News that he believes with the three new officers the service is up to 83 members.

“We're continuing those recruitment pieces,” he said following the board meeting.

“We have a number of people involved in the process for hire as cadets and training. We have some that are at Police College now and we're progressing to hire more officers as we speak.”

TPS needs 13 more officers to reach a full complement.
