Suspect arrested in serious stabbing attack in Timmins

A 22-year-old Timmins man has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing in the area of Rea Street North yesterday morning.

A victim is recovering in hospital in Timmins after being stabbed multiple times early Wednesday morning.

Timmins police have arrested a 22-year-old who was already on probation in connection with the attack, which took place around 2:30 a.m. following a confrontation in the Rea Street North area.

The male victim sustained serious injuries from an edged weapon, police said in a news release Thursday.

“Timmins Police Service officers, along with Emergency Medical Services, attended the scene, where the victim was located and transported to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries,” police said.

“The scene was secured and an investigation was immediately launched. Shortly after, officers located and arrested a suspect in connection with the incident.”

Charges include attempted murder, weapons possession, violating probation, aggravated assault and uttering threats.

Looking for video footage

“The Timmins Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Division continues to investigate this incident and is seeking additional video footage from the public,” police said.

Police are hoping to hear from anyone who has security, dash cam or other footage from the area of Rea Street North near Algonquin Boulevard West, as well as Mountjoy Street South near Second Avenue, taken between 2:30-3:15 a.m. on April 2.

The suspect remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court via video remand on Friday.
