Man charged with attempting to smuggle meth into Sault courthouse

Police in Sault Ste. Marie say a 27-year-old man tried to enter the Sault Ste. Marie courthouse with more than 20 grams of methamphetamines last week.

The incident occurred at about 3:20 p.m. on Feb. 3 on Queen Street East.

“Court security officers and special constables conducted a search of the accused upon their attempted entry into the Sault Ste. Marie courthouse,” said the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service in a news release.

“The search located approximately 23.47 grams of suspected methamphetamine.”

Police seized the estimated $2,347 in drugs.

As a result of the incident, the man is charged with drug trafficking.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on March 31.
