Shoeless Blind River man arrested wandering in the snow, allegedly drunk

Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a suspicious person in Blind River on Wednesday evening.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 5, officers were called to the 100 block of Causley Street after a resident reported a “possibly” intoxicated individual standing in a driveway.

Police said upon arrival authorities located the person walking barefoot on the sidewalk, displaying clear signs of intoxication.

“The individual was arrested and transported to the Blind River detachment, where they were lodged until sober,” said police in a news release.

While in custody, the accused became increasingly agitated, directing verbal abuse at officers. The situation escalated when the individual began splashing toilet water in the cell area and urinated through the bars onto the floor.

As a result of the incidents, the 20-year-old local man has been charged with mischief and public intoxication.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Elliot Lake on March 6 to answer the charges.
