Sault victim was confined, beaten with a fire extinguisher

A 40-year-old woman from Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with forcible confinement and assault following an incident last month on Queen Street East.

A 40-year-old woman from Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with forcible confinement and assault following an incident last month on Queen Street East.

A call to 911 reported a disturbance in an apartment building around 3:30 p.m. March 29. Police arrived to find the victim being treated by emergency medical services.

“An investigation revealed the accused had forcibly confined the victim, threatened them, punched them in the head and struck them with a pipe and a fire extinguisher,” police said in a news release Friday.

“The victim and accused are known to one another. The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening physical injuries. The accused was arrested.”

Charges include assault, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement and uttering threats.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
