Sault road rage incident leads to strangling, assault charges

Sault police have charged a 65-year-old man with assault causing bodily harm following a road rage incident last week.

At around 2:50 p.m. on Feb. 6, emergency communicators received a 911 call reporting an assault outside a business in the 400 block of Bruce Street in Sault Ste. Marie.

“An investigation revealed the victim was exiting a parking spot when the suspect – later identified as the accused – began yelling at them,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release.

“The accused then got out of their vehicle, reached into the victim’s vehicle and strangled them.”

Police said that the victim sustained minor physical injuries as a result of the incident.

The victim did not know the accused according to police.

As a result, the 65-year-old was later arrested by officers at his home and charged with with assault causing bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on March 31.
