A 51-year-old man has been charged with luring a person under 18 after Sault police uncovered alleged inappropriate communications with a teenager.

Police said detectives launched an investigation on Feb. 25, after receiving a report that the accused was involved in a sexual relationship with a minor.

Investigators determined the accused had used a messaging app to communicate with a 16-year-old to facilitate a sexual relationship while aware of the victim’s age.

The accused was arrested on Thursday and charged with luring a person under 18 by telecommunication, police said in a news release on Friday.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
