Three Ontario Provincial Police officers responding to an assault in the northwest were attacked by an individual with an edged weapon, resulting in two being sent to hospital.

Police from the Dryden detachment were called to a home on Pitt Avenue shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and were attacked upon arrival, OPP said in a news release.

"As a result, one individual has been taken into custody."

While OPP said there is no threat to public safety, local residents will continue to see a large police presence as the investigation continues.
