A 20-year-old has been charged with stunt driving and is accused of exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h.
In a social media post, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the incident took place on Feb. 17 on Highway 17 in West Nipissing.
“Nipissing West OPP stopped a vehicle for stunt driving on Highway 17,” police said.
“The vehicle was travelling 141 Kilometres per hour (km/h) in a posted 90 km/h zone.”
As a result of the incident, the driver, a 20-year-old motorist with only a G2 licence, was charged with stunt driving.
Additional penalties
In addition to the charges, the driver also received a 30-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle involved was impounded for 14 days at the owner’s expense.

Court-imposed penalties for stunt driving may include a fine of up to $10,000, a driver’s licence suspension of up to three years and/or up to six months in jail. In Ontario, drivers face a minimum first-time fine for stunt driving of $2,000 upon conviction.
The accused are scheduled to appear in court at a later date to answer the charge.
“Slow down (and) drive safe,” said OPP Const. Rob Lewis in the post.
