North Bay opens time capsule sealed at the turn of the century

Published:

Thursday in North Bay, officials gave two veterans medals from King Charles III, and opened a 25-year-old time capsule.

This week at city hall, the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce opened a 25-year-old time capsule, originally sealed in the year 2000 to mark North Bay’s 75th anniversary.

As part of the city’s 100th-anniversary celebrations, the capsule will be resealed later this year with new items for future generations.

Another special moment was the reading of a letter from the late Jack Burrows, who was mayor when the capsule was sealed, addressed to the mayor and residents of today.

“Inside were heartfelt letters from local children, nostalgic treasures like phone books, maps, business cards, Centennials memorabilia, and even a Bonhomme sash,” said a news release from the city.

Other highlights included Sue (Poeta) Adams, who received a touching note from her late father, along with his police badge and photo.

Donna Backer, president and CEO of the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce, shared messages from former Mayor Jack Burrows and past board president Steve Dreaney.
