An assault suspect is in custody in North Bay after falling while trying to scale a residential building to get away from officers Wednesday night, police say.
North Bay Police Service was called to deal with a disturbance on Main Street West around 6:30 p.m. April 9.

“Upon arrival officers spoke to the victim who advised he had been randomly attacked with a sharp object. Because of his winter coat, the victim did not sustain injuries,” police said in a news release Friday morning.
“The victim escaped to his vehicle and the accused followed, banging on the vehicle.”
It was a random attack and the two men were not known to each other, police spokesperson Merv Shantz told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in an email.
The accused left when the police were called.
“As a result of an investigation, the accused was quickly identified and when police attempted to make contact with him at a residence, he exited a window onto a rooftop and then attempted to scale the outside of the building to escape,” police said.
“As a result, the suspect fell to the ground, where he was immediately arrested by police.”
He was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Because he was injured in police presence, Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit was notified, but has decided not to investigate further after reviewing the case.
“The accused remains in custody for a bail hearing,” police said.
