Most on bail, court-ordered conditions found compliant by Sudbury police

Sudbury police say a 10-day bail compliance blitz with 82 checks saw most offenders complying with their conditions.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service says most people checked during a recent enforcement initiative were following their court-ordered conditions.

The service conducted a 10-day bail compliance and warrant apprehension initiative between Nov. 26 and Dec. 5. The operation involved members from multiple police units.

“This initiative targeted violent and high-risk offenders currently subject to court-imposed conditions, as well as individuals wanted on outstanding warrants,” said police in a news release Wednesday.

The effort is part of the service’s broader Community Safety and Well-Being Plan, which focuses resources on individuals police say present an elevated risk to community security.

Compliance checks, warrants

Officers conducted 82 bail compliance checks on individuals under conditions such as house arrest or curfew. Police reported that 82 per cent were in compliance.

For those found non-compliant, officers made one arrest and applied for five additional arrest warrants through the courts.

During the same period, officers also executed 52 arrest warrants and laid 24 new charges – with 17 of those related to non-compliance with court orders.

Seizures made

The operation also resulted in several seizures.

“Officers seized 13.3 grams of fentanyl, 354.6 grams of cannabis under the Cannabis Act, and six weapons, including pepper spray, a machete and a replica firearm,” said police.

Commitment to Safety

“This approach underscores our commitment to reducing risk and enhancing the safety, security and well-being of Greater Sudbury,” said police.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service says it will continue to dedicate resources to enforcing court conditions and executing arrest warrants.
