Dubbed a ’Canada First Rally,’ the event will be held at The Machine Shop on Huron Street starting at 6 p.m. on April 8.

The event was announced on Hugh Stevenson’s Facebook Page on Friday evening. Stevenson is the federal Conservative candidate for the Sault Ste. Marie–Algoma riding and former chief of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, stepping down last month to run in the federal election.

Anyone who wishes to attend the free event must RSVP on the Conservative Party’s website, here.

Poillevre last visted Sault Ste. Marie in January last year as part of his ‘Axe the Tax Northern Ontario Tour.’

After enjoying a massive lead over the Liberals led by Justin Trudeau, the Tories are facing a new challenge with the threat posed by U.S. President Donald Trump and new Liberal leader Mark Carney.

Nanos polling data as of Saturday, shows the federal Liberals now have a 11-point advantage over the Conservatives, while Carney has opened up a 22-point lead over Poilievre when it comes to Canadians’ preferences for prime minister.

The data also shows the New Democratic Party polling at nine per cent, followed by the Bloc Quebecois (5 per cent), Green Party of Canada (two per cent) and the People’s Party of Canada (one per cent).

“The ballot advantage for the Liberals has increased from five to 11 percentage points since the beginning of the nightly tracking,” said Nik Nanos, chief data scientist at Nanos Research and official pollster for CTV News and the Globe and Mail.
