After 55 years, Jett Landry Music in Sudbury is closing its doors

A family-owned music store that has served generations of Sudbury musicians for more than five decades is closing.

Jett Landry Music announced the decision Friday in a message to customers, citing the difficulty of saying goodbye to a business that has been a community cornerstone since 1971.

‘Difficult decision’

“After more than 55 years of sharing the joy of music, Jett Landry Music has made the difficult decision to close our doors,” the store said in a short message.

The family expressed profound gratitude to the community.

“We are profoundly grateful for the generations of musicians, families, and friends who made this store a part of their lives,” the Jett Landry family said.

In a longer letter to customers, the Jett Landry family said they understand ‘the weight’ of choosing to close the family business.

“With a heavy heart I share with you the difficult decision to close our family business,” the family wrote.

The family also thanked customers for their support and loyalty over 55 years, saying customers had “made the store a part of their lives.”

Gratitude to staff, community

“It has been an honour, and a pleasure taking care of your musical needs, and we will cherish the memories and connections we have made with every person who came through our doors,” said the family.

The store also thanked its past and present staff for their devoted years of service, while encouraging the community to support small local businesses.

Jett Landry Sr. also offered a personal thank you to customers for their support and friendship for more than 50 years.

In previous talks with CTV, Jett Landry Sr. said the business had been successful for so long because of the family’s and store’s core values – including honesty and integrity.

Jett’s children have been a part of the business for many years now as well.

No closing date yet

Ginette Landry, Jett’s daughter, in a message to CTV News, confirmed that there is no set closing date yet because the family needs to sell the remaining inventory.

The store first opened Dec. 7, 1971, and held a 50th anniversary celebration in 2021 during the pandemic.
