Montreal police (SPVM) says a “major” operation that lasted several hours early Monday morning led them to the lifeless body of a man in the Saint-Leonard borough.

Officers received a 911 call overnight about a stabbing inside a residence on Belherbe Street near Lacordaire Boulevard.

When they arrived on the scene, they found an injured 57-year-old man outside.

He was rushed to hospital in critical condition, and his life is no longer considered to be in danger.

According to Noovo Info, Montreal police spokesperson Mariane Allaire Morin says the force then received information that the suspect was still inside the home.

Officers called in the tactical intervention group (GTI), and at 12 p.m., the suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

“Following this intervention, a body was found in the residence,” said Allaire Morin. “It’s a man, but his identity is unknown.”

Investigators plan to meet with the suspect later on in the day.

The investigation is ongoing.
