Wind alert in effect for the evening in Montreal

Residents in Montreal will want to batten down any loose hatches and secure outdoor items that could blow away, as strong winds are likely on Friday.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement in the morning, warning of winds reaching between 70 and 90 kilometres per hour in the evening.

The mercury is expected to hit a low of 1 C on Friday night, as rain clears to cloudy skies.

Those in the greater Montreal area can then expect a wake-up temperature of 0 C to start the weekend off.

Bright skies will become mainly sunny as the mercury moves to a daytime high of 1 C on Saturday afternoon. Lower westerly winds are also expected to gust at 15 kilometres per hour.

Beginning at 11 p.m. on Saturday, snow could appear once again. Roughly 11 centimetres are expected for the island of Montreal heading into Sunday.

To wrap the weekend, precipitation could take the form of rain or snow, as Sunday’s temperatures range from a high of 3 C to an overnight low of -10 C.

Light snow is then expected to start next week. The normal daytime high and low temperatures for this time in January are -6 C and -15 C respectively.
