Nine people relocated after major fire in Hochelaga

The Montreal fire department dispatched about 150 firefighters and 48 fire trucks to extinguish a four-alarm fire in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough early Saturday morning.

Alain Laflamme, the section chief at the fire department, said the blaze on Hochelaga Street and Frontenac Street was reported at around 3 a.m.

“The fire started on the third floor and spread to the roof. We were worried about the fire spreading to the buildings on either side,” he said.

Laflamme said the Red Cross took charge of nine people. No injuries were reported.

The fire was brought under control around 6 a.m.
