Headlight glare too strong? The government of Canada wants your feedback

Pedestrians and drivers have two more weeks to let the federal government know what they think of LED headlights on vehicles.

Transport Canada launched the survey after receiving complaints that modern headlights are too bright and create too much glare.

“While new headlight technology in vehicles can help drivers see better, they can also cause problems for other road users.

Transport Canada wants to learn how headlight glare affects road users and what vehicle or lighting features may influence how people experience it at night,” the website reads.

The 15-minute survey is asking for feedback on their experience travelling at night, contributing factors to headlight glare, driver behaviour and feedback on solutions. It is available on the Government of Canada’s website until April 20.

In January, Vancouver’s city council passed a unanimous motion asking the federal government to create clear, enforceable limits on headlight brightness.

Coun. Sean Orr, who tabled the motion, said he believes the LED headlamps, which are now standard on most new cars, can be a safety hazard.
