Less than a week after Montrealers’ umbrellas were up and active defending miserable heads from ice pellets from the sky, more freezing rain may be on the way later in the week.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a special weather statement for Montreal, Laval and other regions, calling for significant precipitations over almost the entire province on Thursday.

The alert also includes the following regions:

  • Mont-Laurier area
  • Mont-Tremblant - Sainte-Agathe area
  • Vaudreuil area
  • Valleyfield - Beauharnois area
  • Québec City
  • Mont-Orford - Lake Memphrémagog area
  • Sherbrooke area

“Freezing rain is expected to develop Wednesday evening over western and southern Quebec, then over central Quebec Thursday morning,” the news release reads. “The freezing rain will gradually change to rain during the day Thursday.”Environment Canada said that significant snowfall is expected further north.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery,” ECCC said. “Ice accretion could cause broken tree limbs.”
