Federal election in Quebec: Follow live for the latest information on election night

Canadians are heading to the polls in the 2025 federal election on Monday in what is shaping up to be a close race between the Liberals and the Conservatives.

The vote in Quebec could tip the balance of power as the Bloc Québécois appears to be losing support in the province, giving the Liberal Party an extra advantage and a potential path toward a majority in parliament.

Here are the latest updates in Quebec.

12:03 a.m.

Green Party co-leader Jonathan Pedneault, who was running in Montreal’s Outremont riding, has been defeated.

The Liberals’ Rachel Bendayan obliterated the competition with more than 12,000 votes (53 per cent of the vote), ahead of the Conservatives (2nd place), the Bloc (3rd place), and the NDP (4th place).

The Greens came last in the riding with about 3 per cent of the vote.

11:55 p.m.

Nearly all of the ridings on the Island of Montreal have been called but it’s still too close to call Mount Royal.

Anthony Housefather is seeking reelection but is facing a tough race against the Conservative’s Neil Oberman.

As of 11:55 p.m., Housefather had a very narrow lead with a difference of just 48 votes.

11:50 p.m.

Alexandre Boulerice was reelected Monday night in what started out as a close race in the Montreal riding of Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie.

At his watch party on Saint-Denis Street, he said he was feeling “really grateful” for the support from voters giving him a fifth mandate.

“I’m really, really proud. I thank them. I will continue to fight for them in parliament.”

11:42 p.m.

CTV News is projecting that Liberal candidate and first female grand chief of the Quebec’s Cree Nation Mandy Gull-Masty will win the seat in Abitibi—Baie-James—Nunavik—Eeyou.

The riding was a toss-up, with polls favouring incumbent Bloc candidate Sylvie Bérubé in the days leading up to Monday’s vote.

11:33 p.m.

Montreal MP Marc Miller held onto his seat with a resounding victory Monday night. With 20 polls reporting, he was declared the winner in Ville-Marie—Le Sud-Ouest—Île-des-Soeurs with more than 5,400 votes.

He told CTV News “it didn’t look good” for the Liberal Party just a few months ago, but credits a number of issues that led to Monday night’s victory: former prime minister Justin Trudeau stepping down in January, the Trump effect, and the introduction of Liberal leader Mark Carney, whom he acknowledges is a “political rookie.”

“He’s a guy that learns very quickly on the job and we’ve seen that throughout the election,” he said.

11:07 p.m.

Montreal’s Papineau riding is staying red. The seat was left vacant after former prime minister Justin Trudeau stepped aside in January.

CTV News declared candidate Michel Marjorie the winner with 4,215 votes with 33 of 191 polls reporting (55.6 per cent of the vote).

It was a three-way tie for second, third and fourth place between the NDP, the Bloc and the Conservatives.

11:00 p.m.

Bloc incumbent Louis Plamondon, 81, won reelection in Bécancour—Nicolet—Saurel—Alnôbak, meaning the longest serving member of parliament in Canadian history will continue to serve in the riding south of Trois-Rivières.

Plamondon was first elected as a Progressive Conservative in 1984 under former prime minister Brian Mulroney.

10:52 p.m.

CTV News has now declared a Liberal minority government.

The Liberals are poised to make significant gains in Quebec.

The Liberals have gained nine seats in the province so far

The Conservative Party was ahead or won 10 ridings.

10:28 p.m.

Bloc Québécois leader Yves-François Blanchet has won his seat in Beloeil—Chambly. He won 53 per cent of the vote with 7,718 votes with 55 of 267 polls reporting. The Liberals came in second.

10:24 p.m.

The Liberals have lost a seat in eastern Quebec after the Bloc’s Alexis Deschênes edged out Diane Lebouthillier by 2,829 votes, according to preliminary results. The Bloc won 45 per cent of the vote after a tight two-way race in Gaspésie—Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine—Listuguj.

10:07 p.m.

CTV News has declared the Liberal Party will win the election.

10:05 p.m.

The Liberals are leading in at least four ridings in the Quebec City area.

Just over half an hour after polls closed, the Liberals are ahead in Charlesbourg—Haute-Saint-Charles, Québec Centre, Bellechasse—Les Etchemins—Lévis, and Portneuf—Jacques-Cartier.

9:46 p.m.

With 120 out of 337 polls reporting, it’s a tight two-way race between the Liberals and the Conservatives in Gaspésie—Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine—Listuguj.

So far, incumbent Diane Lebouthillier has 42 per cent of the vote, compared to 41 per cent for the Bloc’s Alexis Deschênes.

9:30 p.m.

Polls are now closed across Quebec. Initial results are expected to come in shortly.

9:16 p.m.

CTV News Montreal’s Maria Sarrouh is waiting for the results to come in for Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie but she also is keeping an eye on the riding of Berthier—Maskinongé, north of Montreal, where Ruth Ellen Brosseau is hoping to make a comeback.

Brosseau won the riding in 2011 and again in 2015 before losing to Conservative incumbent Yves Perron in 2019, and again in 2021, but by a narrow margin.

9:01 p.m.

NDP candidate Alexandre Boulerice tells CTV News it’s been “a strange election” due to Trump’s threats on Canada’s economy and sovereignty and the sudden departure of former prime minister Justin Trudeau, and that he’s hopeful he’ll get a fifth mandate.

“I hope we’ll have as many NDPers in parliament because we work for the people,” Boulerice said.

He said the party has other great candidates, including Craig Sauvé, who is running in LaSalle—Émard—Verdun. “I want them to be on my side in parliament,” Boulerice added.

8:37 p.m.

The Island of Montreal, a Liberal stronghold, has 18 ridings and the Liberals currently hold 15 of them. CTV News Montreal Chief Anchor Mutsumi Takahashi reports that the party is hoping to make even more gains in the region — at the expense of the Bloc — by targeting two key ridings on the South Shore.

In Châteauguay—Les Jardins-de-Napierville, high-profile gun-control advocate and survivor of the École Polytechnique massacre, Nathalie Provost, is hoping to unseat the Conservative’s Denis Trudel.

Longueuil—Saint-Hubert is also a riding the Liberals are targeting. The Liberals haven’t held a seat there since 1980. It usually swings between the Bloc and the NPD, but recent polls show that it’s leaning Liberal.

8:30 p.m.

Polls are open for one more hour in Quebec.

Bloc Québécois headquarters is at Le National, in the heart of Montreal’s Village.

CTV News Montreal’s Matt Gilmour is there and Bloc members are expected to begin arriving around 8 p.m.

7:39 p.m.

CTV News Montreal’s Maria Sarrouh is at a bar on St-Denis Street where supporters of NDP candidate Alexandre Boulerice will be gathering to watch the results come in.

Boulerice holds the party’s only seat in Quebec following the orange wave in 2011 and he’s hoping to hang onto it from the Liberals’ Jean-Sébastien Vallée, the Bloc’s Olivier Gignac, the Conservative’s Laetitia Tchatat, and Benoît Morham of the Green Party.

The NDP incumbent has consistently outperformed his party in Quebec and there is the possibility that, if leader Jagmeet Singh doesn’t hold onto his seat in Burnaby South, that Boulerice could be eyeing the leadership spot.

Supporters are expected to gather at the bar at around 8 p.m.

7:05 p.m.

CTV News Montreal anchor Maya Johnson is at the campaign headquarters for Mélanie Joly in Montreal evening as the former foreign affairs minister is seeking another term with the Liberal Party.

She has emerged as a political heavyweight in Quebec with one of the most important portfolios, including dealing with the ongoing trade war with U.S. President Donald Trump — an issue on the minds of many Canadians heading into this election.

Joly has raised the possibility of a Liberal majority government, saying at a rally in Laval last week that Quebecers could be the key to making it happen.

Joly, who is running in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville riding, arrived at her riding office shortly before 7 p.m. and shook hands with supporters and volunteers who worked the phones to get the vote out.
