Police respond to 50-car pile-up on Montreal’s South Shore

Two people were injured in a massive 50-care pileup south of Montreal after heavy snowfall.

Two people sustained minor injuries when around 50 vehicles crashed in four separate vehicle pile-ups on Montreal’s South Shore.

Quebec provincial police (SQ) spokesperson Laurie Avoine said that a driver lost control of a heavy truck on Highway 10 at around 12:45 p.m., causing the first in a series of pile-ups on Thursday afternoon in Sainte-Angèle-de-Monnoir, about 45 kilometres southeast of Montreal.

The truck wound up blocking both lanes and around 20 vehicles collided with each other.

Three other collisions ensued and brought the total of vehicles involved to around 50.

Avoine said weather may have played a part in the pile-up.
