Two local athletes honoured by Athletics Canada for standout 2025 season

Two local athletes have been recognized for standout performances during the 2025 track and field season.

Julia Tunks received the Eric Coy Award as Canada’s top under‑20 athlete. Athletics Canada says Tunks delivered an exceptional season, breaking the senior national record in the discus with a throw of 62.95 metres in April.

She also won the Canadian championship, earned a bronze medal at the NACAC Championships and made her debut at the World Athletics Championships.

Jackson MacKay was honoured with the Lyle Sanderson Award for outstanding combined events.

MacKay set a new Canadian under‑20 decathlon record at the Canadian Track and Field Championships, scoring 7,652 points to surpass a mark that had stood for 28 years.
