Sarnia police ‘graciously accept’ suspect’s request to ‘come get him’ while executing warrant

Sarnia, Ont. police have released night vision video depicting what led up to the arrest of a suspect who refused to leave his residence and taunted police to “come get him.”

According to a news release, on Thursday Sarnia police released the names of several individuals wanted by police on social media in the hopes members of the public could assist in locating them.

One of those individuals was a 47-year-old man wanted for probation violations and believed to be living in Petrolia.

At approximately 2:52 p.m. on Thursday, police attended a home on Oil Heritage Road in Petrolia to locate the suspect.

Upon arrival, police say the suspect refused to exit the home or surrender himself to OPP officers.

“He advised that if Sarnia [police] wanted him, they could come get him,” police said.

Once the residence was contained, OPP contacted Sarnia police to determine if they wanted to continue. Sarnia police say they “graciously accepted” the suspect’s proposal.

In collaboration with OPP in Petrolia, the Sarnia Police Service Emergency Response Team (ETR) and K9 teams arrived at the residence at 7 p.m. Sarnia police then announced their presence and intention to enter the residence if the suspect did not surrender himself.

Police say a woman then came to the door and was told of the warrant to enter the property. She allegedly became confrontational with police, including an attempt to block police access to the front door.

Police add she struck one of the officers in the face, resulting in her arrest.

Despite repeated attempts, police say the suspect refused to exit. The SPS ERT subsequently made entry and placed the suspect under arrest.

Both parties were transported to headquarters for processing.

A 27-year-old Petrolia woman was released on a police undertaking with the following charges for her alleged involvement:

• Assault police
• Obstruct police

A 47-year-old Petrolia man was held for bail on charges of two counts of breaching probation for his alleged involvement.

Following his bail hearing, the accused was released with conditions.
