OPP clear area in Meaford after warning residents to lock their homes

A police situation that started in Owen Sound and led police to Meaford, has ended with one person in custody.

Owen Sound police said the incident started around 4 p.m. Sunday, when officers responded to a disturbance at a home on the city’s west side.

According to police, a man fled the home in a car and officers tried to stop him, but for public safety reasons, ended the chase.

Around 9:45 p.m. OPP in Meaford responded to a call in the area of Grey Road 11 and Grey Road 15 and between Highway 26 and Story Book Park Road.

As a precaution, residents were encouraged to lock their homes and vehicles, and to call 911 if they saw anything suspicious.

With the use of the OPP Emergency Response Team and the Canine Unit, one person was taken into custody and all roads have reopened.
