Winter back with a fury, road closures throughout the region

Back to winter weather across the region Thursday morning. CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison has the details.

As quick as the warm weather came, it’s gone again.

Back to winter weather across the region Thursday morning. Environment Canada has issued a flash freeze warning and winter weather travel advisory for much of Midwestern Ontario.

“A snowfall developed overnight,” explained CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison. We have some snow in the forecast this morning and some icy conditions.”

The melt that came with Wednesday’s warmup, mixed with the overnight freeze has made for some slippery and dangerous conditions on area roadways Thursday morning.

“Temperatures have dropped below the freezing mark, said Atchison. “Not much of a break in the afternoon, although the snowfall comes to an end.”

Drivers are reminded of reduced visibility on the roads with snowfall and to take their time driving on icy roads. Road conditions could change quickly.

Do not fret over the chilly conditions; another warmup is in the forecast for next week.

Road closures in the area

Multiple roads are closed in Midwestern Ontario after some overnight snow and a flash freeze warning.

• The OPP has closed a portion of Highway 21 due to flooding.
• In South Bruce, a multi-vehicle collision closed Bruce Road 10 south of Concession 10 in Arran-Elderslie.
• Highway 21 is also closed between Port Elgin and Southampton.
• Bruce Road 3 is closed between Concession 10 and Bruce Road 40 for flooding.
• Bruce Road 23 will also be closed between Lorne Beach Road and Bruce Road 20.
• Grey Road 2 from Grey Road 4 to Highway 9
• Highway 124 from Grey Road 9 to Singhampton
• Grey Road 7 South of Grey Road 40 to Grey Road 13

Updates will be provided as police send them out.

Although a portion of the 402 was closed due a collision, that has since cleared.

Thursday: Snow ending in the afternoon then cloudy. Local blowing snow. Amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind northwest 40 km/h gusting to 70. Temperature steady near minus 2. Wind chill near minus 11.

Thursday night: Increasing cloudiness. Wind west 20 km/h gusting to 40 becoming light late in the evening. Wind becoming west 20 after midnight. Low minus 4. Wind chill near minus 10.

Friday: Sunny. High plus 4.

Saturday: A mix of sun and cloud. High minus 2.

Sunday: A mix of sun and cloud. High plus 2.

Monday: A mix of sun and cloud. High 8.

Tuesday: A mix of sun and cloud. High 12.
