Man convicted in bush party murder is sentenced on weapons offence

The man who was found guilty in connection with a bush bash shooting that killed a teenager was sentenced on Thursday to a related firearm charge.

The London, Ont. man who was found guilty earlier this month in connection with the bush bash shooting that killed a teenager was sentenced on Thursday to a related firearm charge.

Carlos Guerra Guerra had pleaded guilty to possessing a restricted handgun between July 23 and July 25, 2021, which was just days before the bush party shooting that summer.

For the weapons offence, he received a two-and-a-half-year sentence after a joint submission from the Crown and the defence. He got credit for time already served in custody.

On Jan. 3 of this year, a jury found Guerra Guerra guilty of second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of 18-year-old Josue Silva.

The teen had been with dozens of others at a bush party off of Pack Road in southwest London when he was shot and killed by Guerra Guerra.

In that case, a sentencing hearing is expected to be held on March 31.
