LHSC reveals improvement priorities as the result of community survey

A report presented to London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) on April 24 shared the results of a recent community and staff survey initiative.

The intention of the survey was to provide opportunities for improvement of LHSC, with choices made to strengthen the hospital’s governance, finances, operations and leadership.

The surveys were initially launched in 2024 - a total of 4,000 responses were received.

“The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) is grateful to all the team members, patients, and community members who took time to share their honest feedback,” said Mariam Hamou, LHSC CAC member. “As representatives of the community, we know it is only with this input that LHSC can improve its operations to best serve its patients, community, staff members, and physicians.”

Several priorities came to light as a result of the surveys including:

• staffing and staff workload
• patient volumes and wait times
• communication and community engagement
• training
• facilities and resources
• supporting vulnerable populations
• partnership and collaboration

“I want to thank the Community Advisory Committee for ensuring LHSC’s actions align with the needs of our community and team members,” said David Musyj, Supervisor, LHSC. “Our leadership team is committed to this feedback and resulting action plan. Together, they paint a picture of an organization that is evolving – facing its challenges, while staying grounded in the values that matter most to its people and patients. Change takes time, but together we will build a stronger LHSC and a better future for our team and the communities we serve.”

London Health Sciences Centre undertook the survey in the wake of controversy after the appointment of David Musyj as supervisor at the end of September, and a police investigation into past financial practices.

In a community update in November, Musyj said that one of his responsibilities as Supervisor is to address operational, governance and financial issues that have taken root at LHSC over the past few years.

“It is not fair to our frontline team members that they have to address these topics,” said Musyj.
