Julie Atchison has the latest forecast for the region.

There is a widespread rainfall and freezing rain warning in effect — this includes London, Middlesex, eastern Elgin County, as well as Huron-Perth, Grey and Bruce, stretching all the way to Toronto and east to Ottawa.

“Now we also have a heavy rainfall warning 30 to 50 millimeters of rain expected as we head into the late afternoon evening and overnight thunderstorms on the way,” said CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison.

Downed powerlines, icy branches, and washouts have led to several area road closures.

Atchison added, “temperatures have been slow to come up and that is leading to some extensive freezing rain in and around London minus one right now... we will transition to rainfall where we’ll see the freezing rain more prolonged will be in through midwestern Ontario in and around Kitchener-Waterloo Mount Forest or the temperatures a bit slower to come up through the evening.”

There have been a few thunderstorms as well, they could continue heading into the evening.

The rain will start to taper off by tomorrow morning, but still some showers and the temperatures are headed up late afternoon into the evening in London about 6 C by midnight.

Gusty winds out of the southeast gusts upwards of 60 kilometers per hour.
