‘I can’t remember’: Crown continues questioning reluctant witness in murder trial

For the second day in a row, Crown witness Shane Cameron, 44, continued to tell the jury that he couldn’t recall much of what happened almost five years ago.

Crown attorney Lisa Defoe suggested that he knows more than he’s testifying regarding the death of 59-year-old Grant Norton, whose body was found stuffed in a barrel by the Thames River in the area of Jacqueline and Ada Streets in July of 2020.

When questioned about whether he’s ever seen anyone get beaten up with a baseball bat, Cameron replied, “I can’t remember being in a situation like that.”

Even after reviewing a police statement, Cameron told the court that he can’t remember much of it.

The court has heard that Norton was a well-known drug dealer in the London area who allegedly had connections with the mob in the Hamilton area.

When Cameron was asked if he had ever been to the apartment of the accused in this case Ashley Bourget, he replied that he’s never been to 20 Adelaide St. S.

The 40-year-old Bourget has pleaded not guilty to first degree murder in this case.

The trial resumes on Monday.
